This day has been especially designed for players and lovers of golf. The Corfu Golf Club is considered one of the best kept in Europe. Opened in 1971 and designed by the Swiss architect Don Harradine, it has some challenging holes, the 7th and the 10th, while the 16th is a 205 yard par 3 that has length, water and a steep bank up to the sloping green, similar to the same hole at Augusta but arguably tougher. The designer set out to prove that an excellent course does not need length to make it challenging.
The fairways are lined with Eucalyptus and Poplar trees and there is plenty of water in the form of lakes and meandering streams. There are no weak holes and the cleverly designed hazards make it a fair test for both low and high handicap players.
The course was recently renovated and is kept in perfect condition at all times. In high summer there is a cooling breeze that blows in from the sea making for comfortable play throughout the year. The course blends seamlessly with the picturesque surrounding countryside.
