This tour is unique in that it will take participants along the most unconventional routes that display the true spirit of Corfu, enabling a really close up view of the countryside and it's inhabitants. You can ride through old villages, along donkey trails through shaded olive groves and over deserted beaches at a pace that is right for you, whilst contributing to sustainable, green tourism.
Away from the main roads there is an extensive network of tracks and paths that have been used for many years that offer plenty of scope for cyclists of all abilities. In a single day it is possible to reach some of the most beautiful parts of the island.
The Pantokrator mountain paths are ideal for those that enjoy a challenge and are experienced in the saddle, whilst the lowlands of the Ropa Valley and Central Corfu are less strenuous but are still full of culture and social history that compete with the beauty of the vistas and views that are around every corner. The pace of this tour allows you the luxury to stop whenever you want.
Itinerary:
Once you have disembarked from your ship and have met the Corfutrips.com representative, we will transfer you to our mountain bike club where you will be introduced to your instructor/guide. He will help you choose a suitable bicycle for your body type. You will be instructed on safety for the duration of your tour. You will be provided with walkie-talkie radio and bottle of water.
The tour starts as we cross the village road into the unknown green country-side. After a short stop at a natural waterwell, a donkey path takes us along a frog-lake to the vineyards of the Ropa Valley. Here we can sample a little of the excellent local wine at the village square and then take the off-road route to Ermones, the bay where Odysseus met Nafsika. In the azure blue waters we get rid of the dust and enjoy our lunch at the waterfront taverna. The way back will lead us through some wonderful olive-groves and past a rather peculiar dog kennel!
Total covered distance: 30 km.
