  • Visit to most important resorts of north-east Coast of Corfu Island

The North-East Coast of Corfu is characterized by rugged, cove like beaches on an unspoilt coast line. Mount Pantokrator as visible, as is the gaunt landscape of Albania.

There is so much more to discover with a boat tour.

Nissaki -Translated from Greek, Nissaki means ‘Little Island’.  It is only joined to Corfu after the local people dropped rocks from the nearby quarry into the sea to construct a ramp that eventually built a small road to join the island with the mainland of Corfu.  There is a taverna on the top of ‘island’. Nissaki is extremely pretty and has a small pebble beach. The swimming is excellent here, as is the snorkeling.

Agni Bay and Kouloura - Agni Bay has remained virtually unchanged in the last 100 years. There are just three tavernas and a few local buildings on the bay.  Kouloura is a pretty fishing village with a working harbour, probably one of the most painted scenes in the North East of Corfu.  These are not considered resorts, however both have small beaches, ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

Kalami - Thought to be one of the most tranquil spots in Corfu. The horseshoe-shaped bay has a rare natural beauty. The amphitheatric greenery contrasting with the Ionian Sea and the hillside villages around Kalami create perfect combination.  Kalami is also well known for The White House, the home of the writer Laurence Durrell who lived there during the 1930s.

Kerasia Beach - As one of the prettiest bays on this stretch of coast.  It is a sweep of bay contained between two rocky headlands with a backdrop of eucalyptus trees and olive groves. The water, beautiful shades of aqua and turquoise, is safe and contrast starkly with the virtually white pebbles on the beach.

Saint (or Agios) Stefanos - Once a small harbour and fishing village Agios Stefanos is now one of the most popular 'up market' resorts with many stylish villas and popular with the rich and famous. The beach is quite pebbly and not busy at all and there is a chance that you may see a duck or two whilst there.  A thriving local Greek community welcomes visitors with the famous Greek hospitality.

Avlaki - Relatively unknown to most of Corfu's visitors, Avlaki is situated at an equal distance between Agios Stefanos and the livelier resort of Kassiopi to the North. It is a long, beautiful bay with clear sea. The breeze that steals the intense afternoon heat is refreshing. With just a few villas and two tavernas it is a very quiet beach, even during height of the tourist season.

Kassiopi – is an ancient settlement founded as a supply post during the reign of Pyrhus, the King of Epirus, in the 3rd Century BC.  After the Roman Conquest in 230 BC, many Emperors visited, the most notable being Emperor Nero who visited the Temple of Kassios Zeus. After the church, Panayia Kassopitra, was burned down in 1537, when it was restored in 1590, it was rebuilt with two altars, one for Catholic services and one for Orthodox.  Some of Kassiopi's beaches are inaccessible from the road and there are plenty of isolated ones waiting to be discovered.
